Alison Hirst, MS, CCC-SLP, LMP
Alison Hirst, MS, CCC-SLP, LMP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Licensed Massage Practitioner who has been working in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center for the past twelve years. She specializes in evaluating and treating behavioural voice, airway, and swallowing disorders, including the treatment of performing artists, in rehabilitating head and neck cancer patients, and in helping people in transition affirm their voices to meet gender congruence. She is passionate about meeting the patient where they are and helping them achieve their highest goals possible; at the same time, she truly enjoys learning from her patients.
Alison studied voice and piano prior to pursuing the Speech-Language Pathology track. She graduated from her Master of Science in Medical Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Washington in 2010. Due to special interest in muscle tension disorders associated with voice, airway, and swallowing disorders, she also became a Licensed Massage Practitioner in 2012.
Outside of work, Alison is passionate about cold open water swimming and swims year-round in the Puget Sound and local lakes without a wetsuit. Alison’s favourite title is “Mummy” to her two children (born in 2017 and 2019) that she has with her husband, Erik.
